Anderson County High School opened its golf season earlier this week. and it got off to a busy start, particularly for the boys.

The Mavericks and Lady Mavericks began their seasons Monday with a three-way match against Knox Central and Clinton, but results were not available at press time.

The Mavs had a short turnaround as they opened play in the two-day, 36-hole, Five- Star Preps Masters on Tuesday. The tournament concludes today (Wednesday).

“Our boys are playing in the Five-Star Preps Masters for the first time, and we’re really excited about that,” said ACHS Coach Patrick Leverton, who begins his third season at the helm.

“All of our players have worked hard this summer, and they’ve played in Sneds Tour events.

“They’ve played a lot of golf, and we have an opportunity to be really good this year,” he said.

“They’ve been playing some competitive golf and working hard. I’m excited to see what happens.”

Anderson County has seven boys back from the 2024 team, including sophomores Hoyt Chadwell, Luke Baldwin and Max Sickau. Returning juniors are Peyton Warwick, Gavin Drake, Kaden Chadwell and Preston Vance.

Caden Williams, a senior, joins the ACHS squad after transferring from Powell, and looks to be one of the Mavericks’ top scorers.

The Lady Mavericks also have a pair of veterans back as juniors Sydney May and Coy Tomlinson return.

That duo will be joined by freshmen Molly Jackson and Memphis Goins.

“The girls have also been working really hard and we’re really excited,” Leverton said.

“I want to give a huge shoutout to our sponsors,” Leverton said.

“I want to thank Darrell Leach Construction, Alsco Uniforms, Hammer’s, Allen Heating and Air and Peoples Bank of the South.
