Clinton High School’s football team made a trip to West Knoxville Friday night to scrimmage Christian Academy of Knoxville.

In a game that took just over two hours, the Warriors scored six touchdowns, while the Dragons found the end zone three times.

Ryker Armes, a transfer from Oak Ridge, had 44 yards on two carries, including a 43-yard touchdown run. He was Clinton’s leading rusher against CAK.

Aalijah Davidson had 11 carries for 26 yards.

“Ryker and Aalijah are both going to be good backs for us,” Clinton interim Coach Jason Hamock said.

Clinton managed just 94 rushing yards on the night.

Quarterback Jaylon Benjamin, a sophomore transfer from Powell, was 8-of-14 through the air, amassing 213 yards and recording an 87-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Maddox for the first score of the contest.

Maddox hauled in seven receptions and finished with 208 receiving yards and one touchdown.

“Jaylon was efficient, and Bryson had a big night,” Hamock said.

The Dragons also scored a defensive touchdown when Brendan Hayden nabbed an interception and returned it 75 yards for a score in the junior varsity portion of the scrimmage.

Hamock and the Dragons have a young team, and they experienced some growing pains against the Warriors.

“We’ve got one returning starter on offense and three on defense,” Hamock said. “We’re young on the offensive line, and that’s the hardest part to gel.

“But I’ve seen improvement every week. If I hadn’t seen improvement, I’d be worried.”
