Letter To the Editor
To the Editor,
I write to express my astonishment that Rep. John Ragan is refusing to accept the results of our August primary election.
In my opinion, the voters in District 33 were very clear; they do NOT want John Ragan to continue being their state representative.
Let’s look at the numbers. A total of 8,049 votes were cast in the primary. The Democratic candidate received 2,381 votes (29.5%). Republican candidate Rick Scarbrough received 2,963 votes (36.8%). Republican candidate John Ragan received 2,705 votes (33.6%).
Ragan received only one third of the total votes.
Whether you wish to call them Democrats, Republicans, independents, Libertarians, or unaffiliated, a large MAJORITY of the voters in District 33 chose NOT to return Ragan to the state legislature.
Rep. Ragan should follow the advice of legendary Coach Pat Summitt to her players: “Suck it up, Buttercup,” and honor the will of the voters!
Respectfully,
Marsha Livingston
