Jack Bentz to represent Oak Ridge golf at state tournament

One area high school golfer will compete in the Class AA State Tournament this week.

Oak Ridge High School senior Jack Bentz, a Carson-Newman signee, will conclude his high school career on the state’s grand stage at Sevierville Golf Club on Thursday and Friday.

Bentz, who missed the state tournament in 2023, makes his return after qualifying as a sophomore in 2022.

He earned his spot at Sevierville by shooting a 6-under 66 in the Region 2-AA Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Oak Ridge Country Club.

He will be the lone area representative at the 36-hole state tournament, but he was one of three Oak Ridge golfers to card a round of par or better as the Wildcats finished fourth in the region on their home course. Lewis Niad and Hunter Hinton each shot 72.

Anderson County’s boys finished sixth at the region tournament. Senior Caden Williams led the Mavericks with a 75. Hoyt Chadwell shot an 83, while Gavin Drake and Peyton Warwick each carded an 84.

Clinton High School had two boys in the region field. Senior Braden Wolfe shot 77, and sophomore Grant Hannah finished with an 84.

Anderson County also had three girls in the tournament. Sydney May shot 79, while Coy Tomlinson and Molly Jackson carded scores of 99 and 110, respectively.
