OR Chamber presents Nuclear Science Week

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will observe Nuclear Science Week from Oct. 21-25, with most events in Oak Ridge.

Roane State Community College at 701 Briarcliff Ave. will host a nuclear career and job fair from 4-7 p.m. Monday Oct. 24.

That event will take place at the Goff building. It will also include a tour of the Nuclear Operations Laboratory’s extended laboratory training tools with Y-12’s Oak Ridge Enhanced Technology and Training Center.

An expert panel on non-traditional career paths will be at 6 p.m.

Oak Ridge High School will host two events on Tuesday Oct. 22. The first will be “Atomic Expo: Power: Your Future,” open to the public from 4:30-6:45 p.m.

A student showcase with ORNL Director Stephen Streiffer will be from 7-7:30 p.m.

Additional school-related events will take place at the Enhanced Technology center at 12021 Oak Ridge Turnpike at 7:30 a.m. Friday Oct. 25.

Superintendent Bruce Borchers and Holly Cross, supervisor of career readiness, will share insights on Oak Ridge Schools’ efforts regarding career pathways and awareness. They will highlight plans for a four-year nuclear technologies path in partnership with RSCC.

The American Museum of Science and Energy at 115 Main St. E. will host a children’s special half-priced admissions for $2.40, along with children’s nuclear science activities.

The same museum on Saturday, Oct. 26, will host a double feature free to registered guests from 2-7 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m. will be “Godzilla: 2000.” At 5:30 p.m. will be “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.”

The Costume Monster Mash with Trick or Treating and Miniature City Smash will be from 2-5:30 p.m.

A special giveaway for all pre-registered guests will be included.
