Clinton High School’s girls soccer team had arguably its best season in program history in 2024.

The Lady Dragons finished 10-5-1 and placed second in the District 4-AA regular-season standings, going 3-1 in league play.

Their only league loss came against crosstown rival Anderson County in a 5-1 contest.

Clinton also finished as runner-up in the district’s postseason tournament, placing second to the Lady Mavericks.

With that second-place finish, the Lady Dragons qualified for the Region 2-AA tournament, marking their first regional appearance in school history.

However, things didn’t go their way in the semifinals at Seymour on Tuesday, Oct. 15. After falling behind the Lady Eagles 5-0 in the first half, Clinton came up on the short end of a 6-2 decision.

The Lady Dragons’ Elly Leander scored a goal and provided an assist in her final high school game, capping off a brilliant prep career. Fellow senior Sadie Haney also scored at Seymour in her last match as a Lady Dragon.

Leander was one of the state’s top playmakers, finishing the season with 21 assists.
