The Anderson County High School swim teams will kick off their 2024-25 season on Sunday.

The Mavericks and Lady Mavericks will face Farragut and Concord Christian School at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatics Center.

Anderson County returns three state qualifiers from last season.

Seniors Avery Coker and Landon Rainey are back for their final high school season. Coker, one of the school’s most decorated swimmers, will primarily compete in butterfly and freestyle events, while Rainey will focus on freestyle races.

The Mavericks also add two freshmen. Shea Rainey, Landon’s younger brother, will compete in butterfly and breaststroke events, and Jackson Davis will swim in freestyle and backstroke races.

Coach Stephanie Coker noted that team members may compete in various events this season, especially as the newcomers find their footing.

“It’s still early, and I don’t really know where everybody is going to be,” Coker said.

On the girls’ side, junior Donovan Rainey is the sole returning athlete for the Lady Mavericks. A state qualifier last season, she will compete in breaststroke and freestyle events.

She’ll be joined by newcomers sophomore Kady Terry, a transfer to Anderson County, and freshman Katie Wade, both beginning careers in freestyle.

Coker is optimistic about her team’s potential this season, particularly the returning state qualifiers.

“We’re ready to get started, and we’re looking forward to the season,” she said. “I would like to see them all get back to state this year, and I’m hoping to have enough boys qualify to compete in a relay at state.”
