Undefeated Rams roll to 7-0 record
Robertsville Middle School’s boys basketball team opened conference play with a 66-17 victory over Cherokee on Thursday night.
The Rams are off to a hot start in the 2024-25 season, winning their first seven games.
“It was a big win, and a conference win is always good,” said Robertsville Coach John Spratling. “Cherokee is always a tough place to play.”
The Rams (7-0, 1-0 in Tennessee Middle School Conference Area 2) started fast Thursday night, taking a 19-12 lead in the first quarter before pulling away with a 19-1 run in the second. Robertsville, leading 32-8 at halftime, held Cherokee scoreless over the final six minutes.
Offensively, Kamoni Willis led Robertsville with 22 points, scoring 18 after halftime, including 10 in the third quarter.
Josiah McClure added 11 points, Tre Threat scored eight, and La’Miere Porter and Kashton Seaman finished with six each.
Lady Rams dominate Cherokee
Despite missing one of its top players, the Robertsville Middle School girls basketball team claimed a win in its conference opener Thursday night at Cherokee Middle School in Kingston.
The Lady Rams, who began the 2024-25 season with a non-league loss to Sevier County on Nov. 5, bounced back to rout the Lady Indians 45-19.
Robertsville had two players in double figures, with Azariah Lee scoring 21 points and Bella Bradley adding 12. Mazyah Bradley contributed six points for the Lady Rams (1-1 overall, 1-0 in Tennessee Middle School Conference Area 2).
Head Coach David Scott, returning for another season, has a roster heavy with seventh-graders.
“We play two eighth- graders and one sixth-grader,” Scott said. “We’re seventh-grade heavy, and my best post player, Alani Mitchell, is out until mid-December. She’s a seventh-grader, and tore her ACL in March, but she’s back to light work and shooting.”
Jefferson boys beat LaFollette in opener
Despite his team splitting its first two games of the 2024-25 season, Jefferson Middle School boys basketball Coach Ted Mitchell praised the Eagles’ effort.
“We played with high energy in both games last week,” said Mitchell, who recently began his first season as Jefferson’s head coach.
Mitchell, an assistant football coach at Oak Ridge High School, has also served as an assistant under Oak Ridge High boys basketball Coach Aaron Green, so he’s no stranger to area basketball fans.
The Eagles opened the season with a win Nov. 5, defeating LaFollette 59-21.
Jordan Samuelson led all scorers with 26 points, while Graydon Calder and Max Keene each added nine points, and Quandavis Watson scored eight.
Jefferson faced Jacksboro on Thursday, falling 52-38.
Young Lady Eagles win home opener
The Jefferson Middle School girls basketball team opened its season with a strong victory on Nov. 4 at home.
The Lady Eagles defeated LaFollette 38-26, but lost on the road to Jacksboro Thursday night.
“We’ve got an extremely young team,” Jefferson Coach Katie Bolling said.
“I have four sixth-graders on the varsity team starting games,” he said.
“I’m trying to get these girls some playing time so they can grow and get better in every game. Jacksboro has a pretty strong team. Every game, we’re just looking to get better.”
In the season opener against LaFollette, two Lady Eagles scored in double figures.
Jordyn Owens led Jefferson with 16 points, while Kyla Chaurtrand added 10 points.
Ta’Miyah Porter contributed six points.
