‘Elevate’ event scheduled Dec. 3
Oak Ridge will host the Scarbro 85 Elevate the Game Fireside Chat on Dec. 3 at Calhoun’s Oak Ridge, located at 100 Melton Hill Peninsula.
The event runs from 7-9 a.m. and is a fundraiser to erect a monument to those who broke the color barrier for Oak Ridge High School athletics and desegregated Oak Ridge City Schools in 1955.
Lawrence Graham Jr. (now known as Dr. Ahmed Alhamisi) and Fred Guinn broke both barriers in Oak Ridge.
The event is a fundraiser. Cost is $100 and tickets may be purchased at the Explore Oak Ridge website, exploreoakridge.com.
Scheduled speakers include: David Clary, Jill Prudden, Aaron Green, Tammy Dowdell, Carmen Dowdell Toy-Fouse, Daryl Miller, Paige Taylor, Tennessee Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton (a former Oak Ridge basketball player), Travis Free and Ronald Graham.
Others scheduled to attend, schedule-permitting include: Nikki Caldwell Fargas, Jennifer Azzi. Tee Higins and Joe Gaddis.
