Mortgage lender returns ‘home’

ELIZABETH POWERS
After living in Hardin Valley for 13 years — and opening a new local office — Anderson County native Elizabeth Powers is literally coming “home.”

She and her husband, Duwayne Powers, are moving back to her native Rocky Top after the first of the year, and just a couple of months after opening a new Clinton office for American Financial Network, the family-owned company for which she works as a mortgage lender.

“I planned the office opening closer to where we will be living,” Powers said, noting the company has a Farragut office, too, at 11235 West Point Drive, Suite 300, where support staff are located.

“I have always done business in the area, and am just glad we will be closer to where the majority of my clients have been and are located,” she said.

“In my heart, I know it already feels like I’m back home, providing services for our local community.”

Powers has been in the mortgage-lending business since 1998, and enjoys what she does, she said, which involves helping customers buy or refinance their homes or property.

“We work hand-in-hand with Realtors, but working with us is really the first step potential homebuyers need to take,” she said. “We help them get pre-approved, so they know what they can buy, and what their payments will be.”

Even though interest rates have been high these last few months, Powers said the desire for home ownership — especially in the East Tennessee region — has remained steady.

“The market is still really good,” she said.

Additionally, she said available programs, including some with no-money-down options, are helping potential homeowners realize their dreams.

“The perception that they are required to put 20% down is not the only option,” she said.

Powers does work with clients from out of state, too, and notes American Financial Network has branches in every state.

“I am licensed to work in the state of Tennessee, but the company can provide services throughout the country,” she said.

Additionally, Powers has been a member and ambassador for the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce “for many years.”
