Lady Mavericks stay perfect with two wins
The games, played Monday, Nov. 18, at Knoxville Halls High School, saw the Lady Mavericks tested but ultimately prevail.
Anderson County never trailed against the Lady Rebels, although it had to fend off a late rally to secure a 26-19 victory.
In their second game, the Lady Mavericks faced an early deficit but staged a comeback to edge the host Lady Devils 28-26.
In Week 1, ACHS opened the season with wins over Karns and Hardin Valley Academy at HVA.
“The games were a lot closer this time,” Anderson County Coach Jonathan Cotton said.
“We got ahead of West, and they came back on us,” he said. “Against Halls, we were down, and we had to come back for the first time.
“I was really pleased with the way the girls fought, hung in there, and dug in.”
Quarterback Kionna Gillum continued to lead the Lady Mavericks’ offense, following up her eight passing touchdowns in Week 1 with a strong performance on the ground, Cotton noted.
Chloe Freeman, Izzy Aulisio, and Natalie Ward were among the players making significant contributions during Week 2 of play.
The Lady Mavericks were slated to face Bearden (4-0) and South-Doyle on Monday in West Knoxville. Results were unavailable at press time.
