Amos shocks Beavers with three pick-6s

After a hot start to the season with six consecutive wins, the Anderson County High School flag football team faced a challenging week, splitting four games.

The Lady Mavericks dropped a pair of Region 2 games Monday, Dec. 2, at Scarbro Stadium in Powell.

Anderson County fell to Powell 25-0 before losing a close contest to Knoxville Central, 19-14.

Bralee Hall and Anaya Witkowski scored touchdowns against the Lady Bobcats.

On Thursday, Anderson County bounced back with two non-region wins at Karns.

The Lady Mavericks avenged their loss to Powell, securing their second victory of the season against Karns.

Lady Mavericks head Coach Jonathan Cotton praised his defense, led by defensive coordinator Ryan Moog, for its performance in the non-region matchups.

“I didn’t worry about the scores of those games because they didn’t affect our standing in the region, and the film ran out, so I didn’t have anything to go back and look at,” Cotton said.

“But the story of the last two weeks has been Coach Ryan Moog’s defense,” he said. “Jocelyn Amos had three pick-sixes in one game against Karns, and she had some big flag pulls or tackles. She plays cornerback for us. It was the same thing for Chloe Freeman. Our defense really allowed us to get an edge over the last two weeks.”

The Lady Mavericks concluded their regular season Monday at Farragut, taking on Austin-East and the host Lady Admirals at Bill Clabo Field and Eddie Courtney Stadium. Anderson County beat Austin-East 18-6, and Farragut 27-12.
