Dragons win medals at Irish Invitational
Clinton High School’s wrestling program enjoyed a strong showing at the Irish Invitational over the weekend, with two boys and two girls earning top-three finishes.
Heavyweight Dalton Kendall and 126-pound competitor Aaron Solberg each secured third place in their respective divisions Saturday at Knoxville Catholic High School.
“Dalton had a great tournament, and it was big for him to place over there,” Dragons Coach Channing McDonald said. “Aaron’s bracket was pretty tough. His bracket, at 126, is tough in every tournament.”
McDonald praised Kendall and Solberg for battling through tough competition.
“Dalton wrestled a kid from Cleveland who won the state last year, and Aaron came back strong,” McDonald said. “He didn’t wrestle well in the first round, but then he came back and got two big wins.”
The Dragons’ younger wrestlers also made progress.
“All of our younger wrestlers each got at least one win on Saturday, and that was big for our program,” McDonald said.
A pair of Lady Dragons also had strong performances at the Irish Invitational.
Zairia Feeney (126 pounds) and Ace Johnson (185 pounds) earned runner-up finishes in their brackets.
“On the girls’ side, we had Zairia and Ace finish second, and we were really proud of them,” McDonald said.
