Wildcats win cross-county matchup against Dragons

Oak Ridge High School’s boys basketball team returned to the win column Monday night with a decisive 84-54 victory over in-county rival Clinton at Wildcat Arena.

The Wildcats (3-1) led the Dragons (5-5) from start to finish, holding a 21-15 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Oak Ridge continued to widen its lead and was ahead at halftime.

The third quarter was evenly matched, but it proved costly for Clinton as junior Bryson Maddox and head coach Chris Lockard were ejected from the game and ordered to leave the gym.

Maddox, the Dragons’ second-leading scorer, tallied 10 points before his ejection. Kaden Ison paced Clinton with 12 points, while Camden Nelson added nine.

Oak Ridge’s offense showcased balance, with Cooper Williams leading all scorers with 18 points. Malik Howard contributed 17, and Charlie Taubenheim and Garrett Giles each chipped in 14.

While Oak Ridge was idle after a Thanksgiving-week trip to Florida, Clinton played five games, recording wins over Karns, University School of Johnson City, and Daniel Boone, but falling to Campbell County and David Crockett.
