Lady Wildcats edge Cocke in overtime

Oak Ridge High School’s girls basketball team returned to action after a short holiday break and claimed a thrilling 74-72 overtime victory against Cocke County on Friday in Greeneville.

The Lady Wildcats (10-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season, which came on Dec. 21 in the championship game of the Hammers Hardwood Classic against Morristown East.

After a week off, Oak Ridge traveled to the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic in Northeast Tennessee, where they faced Cocke County, one of the state’s premier girls basketball programs, in their tournament opener.

Ayana Porter led the Lady Wildcats with 28 points. She was one of four Oak Ridge players to score in double figures. Evayla Mitchell contributed 15 points, while Lindsay Cleveland and Ze’Yana Stewart added 10 points each.
