Senators hold off Holston in tournament opener
A fast start helped the Norris Middle School boys basketball team secure a victory Friday night in the opening round of the Anderson County Middle School Christmas Tournament at Anderson County High School.
The Senators jumped out to a 21-3 first-quarter lead against Knoxville’s Holston Middle School and held off a late rally by the Hurricanes to claim a 53-47 win.
Colton Lawson scored 17 of his game-high 31 points in the opening quarter, setting the tone for the Senators.
Norris maintained a 37-20 lead at halftime, but Holston mounted a comeback in the second half.
Bentley Ellis contributed 18 points for Norris, including two three-pointers.
The Senators carried a 47-32 advantage into the final quarter before fending off the Hurricanes’ late push.
Norris played again on Saturday and wrapped up its tournament run on Monday. Results were not available at press time.
