Clinton High School senior cross-country and track and field distance runner Alli Hollifield will continue her athletic career in college.

Hollifield made it official Monday night, signing a national letter of intent to compete in cross country at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville.

Hollifield acknowledged that she was uncertain about pursuing collegiate athletics for much of her high school career.

“When I was younger, I wanted to run in college, but once I got into high school, I didn’t know if I wanted to because I didn’t think I was good enough,” she said.

An injury sidelined her during most of her junior cross-country season, but she rebounded in the spring and capped her high school career with a strong senior campaign in 2024.

“I had injuries, and during my freshman year, I didn’t have the right mindset,” Hollifield said.

Hollifield plans to pursue a degree in special education with the goal of becoming a teacher.

She also considered attending Roane State Community College and a school in Alabama before ultimately deciding on Pellissippi State.

“I didn’t really care if I stayed close to home,” she said. “But I’m glad that I can stay here and compete.”

She said Pellissippi State’s cross-country coach and the school’s education program were major factors in her decision.

Clinton cross-country and track and field Coach Tim Kumes praised Hollifield for her work ethic and determination.

“Alli works extremely hard; she works her tail off,” Kumes said. “She’s a great kid and has a great family. I’m glad to see that her hard work has paid off and that she has the opportunity to compete at the next level.”
