Connors wins at Halls, adds title to her stellar season
Anderson County High School Lady Mavericks sophomore wrestler Danielle Connors added another tournament title to her impressive 2024-25 season Friday night.
Connors, ranked No. 1 at 126 pounds in a December poll, dropped to the 120-pound weight class and captured first place at the Halls Girls Invitational, hosted by Knoxville Halls High School.
“She moved down and won that tournament,” Anderson County Coach Matt Slone said.
“There were 19 girls in her bracket, so she had to win multiple matches — four or five, I think.”
Connors, an experienced competitor in combat sports including mixed martial arts, began wrestling at ACHS as a freshman midway through last season. Her dedication to the sport is evident in her drive to face tougher competition.
“Danielle is always looking to improve,” Slone said.
“She’s constantly asking us to get her into bigger and better tournaments. She has a passion for this sport and wants to get better.”
