ORPD honors Sgt. Barry Bunch after cancer battle

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Sgt. Barry Bunch, who lost his courageous battle with cancer,” the ORPD said in a statement on its official Facebook page.
Bunch began his career as a seasonal employee with the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department in 1993 before joining the police department in 1994.
He served as an original K-9 officer, SWAT member, and training instructor. He was promoted to sergeant in 2019, and supervised patrol teams and school resource officers.
“Throughout his distinguished career, Sgt. Bunch exemplified kindness and commitment, always putting others first and positively impacting every role he held,” the department stated. “We will never forget his leadership, compassion, and devotion to our community.
“During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers. Sgt. Bunch’s legacy of service, strength, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.
“We will take it from here, Sgt. Bunch. Thank you for your service.”
