The Lady Mavericks, who were scheduled to play Tuesday night (results were unavailable at press time), won three consecutive games last week.
“That’s the first time that we’ve been able to do that this year,” ACHS Coach Mitch Cupples said. “We’ve battled inconsistency all year.”
The Lady Mavericks (10-9 overall, 4-2 District 4-AAA) traveled to Corryton on Friday night and defeated Gibbs 63-53. Anderson County had previously beaten the Lady Eagles by 30 points at home.
Anderson County started strong Friday in Northeast Knox County, opening a 42-17 lead in the second quarter.
However, the Lady Mavericks endured a scoring drought in the final 16 minutes.
“We just made three shots after halftime, and they certainly made us work for it,” Cupples said.
“I think part of it was that we relaxed. We beat them by 30 here, and I think the kids thought it was just going to be easy.”
Bethany Lowe led the Lady Mavericks with 19 points against Gibbs. Macy Basford added 12, and Addison Grooms finished with 11.
On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Lady Mavericks defeated Union County 58-41 at home.
Grooms scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed four rebounds. Lowe contributed 14 points, and Basford scored 12.
Anderson County started its winning streak with a 51-39 non-district victory over Oliver Springs on Monday, Jan. 20. Lowe led with 14 points, while Basford added 12.
The Lady Mavericks hosted Scott on Tuesday in hopes of avenging an early-season district loss.
They will travel to Maynardville on Friday for a rematch against the Lady Patriots. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
