Watson dishes record 17 assists in district finale

Ray’Quan Watson had 17 assists in the Wildcats’ 109-69 win against Campbell County.
The Wildcats closed out the week with a record-setting performance against the Cougars.
Oak Ridge (18-3, 10-0 District 3-4A) routed Campbell County 109-69 on Friday night, completing a perfect run through its district schedule.
Wildcats Coach Aaron Green, in his 15th season at the helm, remained unbeaten against Campbell County, improving to 32-0 all-time against the Cougars.
Senior point guard Ray’Quan Watson etched his name into the ORHS record book, setting a single-game record with 17 assists.
He also scored 10 points and was one of eight Wildcats to finish in double figures. Watson now needs five more assists to break the school’s career record.
Charlie Taubenheim led Oak Ridge with 19 points, while Malik Howard added 16. Garrett Giles, Cooper Williams, Shamar Greene, and Josh Amos each scored 13. Louis Soria finished with 12.
The Wildcats built a 57-37 halftime lead and never looked back.
Earlier in the week, Oak Ridge defeated Powell 79-59 at Wildcat Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Watson scored 15 points in the win and was one of four Wildcats to reach double figures. Giles tallied 14 points, while Howard and Taubenheim added 11 each.
Oak Ridge hosted Walker Valley on Monday, although results were not available at press time.
The Wildcats travel to Alcoa on Thursday, looking to avenge one of their losses this season.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Blount County.
