Colton Lawson scored 21 points, and Bentley Ellis added eight to propel the Norris Middle School boys basketball team to a 41-40 victory over Chuckey-Doak in the first round of the Class AA sectional tournament Saturday at Cherokee High School in Rogersville.

“It was a close game,” Senators Assistant Coach Darrell Lawson said. “We were up four, and they hit a three as the buzzer went off. We were ahead by four or five most of the second half.”

Norris, which made it to the state tournament last season, will next play tonight (Feb. 5) when it takes on Chattanooga Prep.

Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. at Anderson County High School.

Chattanooga Prep had a first-round bye Saturday, as Area 6 did not have a second qualifier from its district tournament.

Norris won its district tournament recently.
