Post 172 marks first birth with blanket, legacy

  • American Legion Post 172 President David Farmer presents member Tyanna Lemasters with a blanket that was made by his mother, who passed in 2023.

History was made Monday, March 10, at the Anderson County American Legion Post 172 meeting when post member Tyanna Lemasters was recognized for a noteworthy accomplishment.

Since the post was established in 1920, Lemasters is the first member to have given birth while an active member.

Post Commander David Farmer presented Lemasters and her 2-month-old son, Levi, with a special baby blanket.

The blanket was made by Farmer’s mother, Juanita Farmer, who died in 2023. It may have been one of the many needlework projects she entered in the Anderson County Fair.

Juanita Farmer was the widow of Nelson Farmer, a World War II veteran, lifelong post member and former post adjutant.
