Music groups to present Beethoven’s Ninth performances

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association presents a spectacular collaboration featuring the Oak Ridge Symphony, Oak Ridge Chorus, Knoxville Opera, and the Pellissippi State Variations Choir in a celebration of music.

This event will take place on Saturday, April 5, at the Clayton Center for the Arts in Maryville, and again on Sunday, April 6, at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center, marking a special 80th-anniversary season celebration for the Oak Ridge association.

“The program opens with Gabriela Lena Frank’s ‘Pachamama Meets an Ode,’ a visionary companion piece to ‘Ode to Joy,’” a news release stated. “This stunning work blends Andean mythology with Beethoven’s choral masterpiece, creating a deeply moving reflection on the connection between humanity and nature.

“The second half of the concert features one of the most-beloved symphonies of all time — Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, the ‘Choral’ Symphony. With its uplifting melodies and resounding message of universal brotherhood, Beethoven’s Ninth remains a timeless testament to hope and joy. The monumental final movement, featuring Schiller’s Ode to Joy, will be brought to life by a full chorus and vocal soloists in a performance not to be missed.

“This exciting collaboration unites exceptional musicians, vocalists, and artistic visionaries, bringing an unforgettable concert experience to audiences in both Maryville and Oak Ridge,” the release stated.
