Clinton finds magic late in dramatic baseball stretch


Bryson Douglas was 3-for-3 at the plate on Friday night against Cotter (Arkansas). Douglas scored twice and knocked in 2 RBIs in the Dragons 19-4 win.
Clinton High School’s baseball team experienced the highs and lows of the diamond in a whirlwind six-game stretch last week.

The action began Monday, March 24, with a dramatic 11-10 walk-off victory over Union County at Jaycee Park.

The Dragons prevailed in their final at-bat when Will Easterday drew a bases-loaded walk.

Alex Duggins went 3-for-3 for Clinton (7-11 overall, 1-1 in District 4-AAA), scoring twice and logging an RBI.

Jackson Webb had two hits, including a double, with three RBIs and two runs scored. Jake Rittenberry tallied three hits and an RBI, while Dallas Beets added three hits, three runs, and one RBI.

The following day, Union County got its revenge with a 16-1 win over the Dragons in Maynardville.

Clinton then fell to Sevier County 16-4 on Thursday.

The Dragons bounced back on Friday with a pair of wins, routing Cotter 19-4 and downing Eagleton 11-2.

Against Cotter, leadoff hitter and centerfielder Bryson Douglas went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Rittenberry finished 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Will Brooks added two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

In the victory over Eagleton, Webb had three hits and scored twice, while Brooks went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Douglas chipped in with two hits, two runs and an RBI.

On Saturday, Clinton capped the week with another walk-off thriller, edging Victory Christian 7-6. Webb delivered the game-winning blow — a two-run double — and finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Duggins went 2-for-2 in the finale, doubling, scoring a run and collecting an RBI.
