Wilson’s hat trick, Rivera’s rise power Mavericks to back-to-back wins
Anderson County High School’s boys soccer team endured a sluggish start to the 2025 campaign, but the Mavericks may have finally found their rhythm after picking up a pair of dominant wins last week.
ACHS opened District 4-AA play with a 4-0 shutout of crosstown rival Clinton Thursday night on its home field.
Earlier in the week, the Mavericks rolled past Rockwood 5-1 on Tuesday, April 1.
Against the Dragons (2-3 overall, 0-1 in the district), junior Andrew Wilson recorded a hat trick, while freshman Jimmy Rivera netted the other goal for Anderson County (3-4-1, 1-0).
Rivera and Wilson were also key in the victory over Rockwood, each scoring twice.
Wilson assisted on both of Rivera’s goals.
Landon Nichols added an assist, and Stevie Johnson scored the Mavericks’ other goal in the rout.
“We got off to a slow start, and the scores and stats don’t tell the half of it,” ACHS Coach Chris Curtin said. “We had some personnel issues, but hopefully, we’ve gotten into a groove, settled in and turned the corner.”
