’Cats bats blister opponents in dominant week
It was a scorching stretch at the plate for the Oak Ridge High School baseball team, as the Wildcats won all five of their games last week.
They opened with a thunderous start, sweeping Campbell County in a two-game District 3-4A series.
The Wildcats (18-4 overall, 3-1 in the district) clobbered the Cougars 15-0 in Game 1. As if that wasn’t enough, Oak Ridge followed with a 24-0 rout in the second game.
In the opener, Whit Renegar went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Kamden Welch was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Peyton Witter added a 2-for-2 performance with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Mikee Teasley had two hits, two RBIs and a run, while Richie Ferreira doubled, scored and drove in two more.
On the mound, Welch and Tryce Sharp combined on a one-hit shutout. Welch started and allowed one hit and two walks while striking out nine over three innings. Sharp pitched two hitless innings, walking one and striking out three.
In Game 2, Cy Stephens starred with a 3-for-3 outing that included a home run, two doubles, six RBIs and three runs scored. Witter also homered, while Parker Free doubled twice and drove in three runs.
Teasley, Ian Koth and Titus Fedders combined for the shutout on the mound in the series finale.
Oak Ridge stayed hot Thursday with another shutout, blanking Pikeville 9-0.
Witter delivered on both sides of the ball. On the mound, he tossed five innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out three. Sharp followed with a scoreless sixth inning.
Witter also blasted a grand slam. Teasley homered, doubled, scored twice, stole a base and added an RBI. Warren East had three hits, including two doubles, and scored twice while stealing three bases.
In Friday night’s 13-2 win over Portland, Witter, Free and Fedders each homered. Teasley tripled, and Ferreira and Welch both doubled. Welch scored three runs.
The Wildcats capped the week with a 7-4 victory over Collins on Saturday. East went 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Ferreira added two hits and two RBIs.
