Clinton cruises past Scott in twinbill
Mother Nature disrupted Clinton High School’s baseball schedule last week, but the Dragons still managed to make some noise on the field.
Clinton (10-14 overall, 4-2 in District 4-AAA) had its doubleheader against Scott High postponed on Monday, April 7, and saw its Friday matchup against Knoxville Grace Christian Academy rained out.
But the Dragons were able to host the Highlanders for a district doubleheader Tuesday, April 8, at Jaycee Park, and they made short work of their visitors.
Clinton swept the twinbill, winning both games in just three innings.
In Game 1, the Dragons rolled to a 12-0 victory behind a dominant performance from pitcher Jackson Barrett, who tossed a one-hit shutout.
Barrett walked one and struck out six in the complete-game effort.
Clinton’s offense pounced early and took full advantage of seven Scott errors.
The Dragons finished with eight hits, including a double from Brennan Tipton, who also scored a run and notched an RBI.
Webb went 1-for-2 and scored three runs, while Jake Rittenberry was 2-for-2. Leadoff hitter JP Robbins had a hit and scored twice.
Will Brooks added a single, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
In the nightcap, Clinton posted a 13-1 win. Brooks, Webb and Dallas Beets combined on a two-hitter to close out the sweep.
Robbins shined from the top of the order, going 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Brooks doubled and drove in two, and Jaxon Young doubled, scored and plated two more.
The Dragons collected nine hits and erupted for nine runs in the first inning.
