Clinton’s newest restaurant, Robie’s Grill, plans to open this week next to Little Caesar’s pizza in Centre Plaza, featuring traditional home-style soul food and barbecue, owner Phyllis Carter said.

It will be located in the former space of the BK Kitchen Mongolian Grill, which closed late last year. It’s situated between Little Caesar’s and the UPS Store.

Items on the menu will include ribs, pulled pork, catfish, meatloaf, flavored wings, grilled and fried chicken, salads and more, Carter said.

“We will also have desserts, such as banana pudding, peach cobbler, sweet potato pie (a family tradition), and assorted cakes,” she said.

Robie’s Grill is intended to bring back the legacy of Carter’s father, Robert Roberson, who for many years operated R&M Bar-B-Q in South Clinton, she said.

She’s also bringing back a favorite from her father’s old place, the Delta sandwich, which is made of barbecued bologna, she said.

Carter, who lives in Claxton, operated a restaurant at 530 Edgemoor Road in that community until it closed last May, she said.

Her dad has passed away, but Carter hopes to honor his memory by offering much of the same cuisine that he did when his restaurant was thriving in the 1980s, she said.

Robie’s Grill will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m., Carter said.

On Sundays, she plans to offer a “traditional Sunday dinner, with a meat and three sides,” she said.

The restaurant will be closed on Mondays.
