Mayor applauds launch of ‘Encore’ senior publication

Encore., a new senior publication, is included in this issue of The Courier News and will be published bi-monthly.
County Mayor Terry Frank said she is pleased to applaud the publication of a new printed information resource for the senior citizens of Anderson County thanks to an initiative by The Courier News.

“Encore” provides in-kind value to the programs offered at the Anderson County Senior Center and Office on Aging.

The publication’s first edition will be inserted into this week’s edition of the local newspaper.

Print copies are also available at the Anderson County Senior Center, 96 Mariner Point Drive, and at the Anderson County Courthouse, 100 North Main St. in Clinton.

“We are excited about the publishing of Encore as a new senior-related publication,” said Tony Cox, publisher of The Courier News.

“Being able to showcase a positive story about seniors here in Anderson County and provide our readers with information and schedules for the Anderson County Senior Center is a huge win for the community.”

Frank added, “We are so excited to see this new publication from The Courier News. The publication will put a printed copy of the Anderson County Senior Center and Office on Aging calendar of activities and learning in the hands of seniors, and will also provide them with the helpful information they need—whether it’s an uplifting story, or pointing them to resources.”

Encore will be published bi-monthly and will include feature stories about local senior citizens, as well as sudoku, crossword and word-search puzzles, recipes, senior health-awareness articles, and lists of activities and events planned for the Anderson County Senior Center.

The Anderson County Senior Center and Office on Aging are available to residents ages 60 and older.

Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The center offers a variety of programs and activities to improve senior citizens’ quality of life, prevent and combat depression, aid in socialization, and provide entertainment and enjoyment.

The Office on Aging can help local seniors learn about programs and benefits for which they might qualify, and can assist in obtaining those services.

The programs are funded under a grant contract with the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency.
