Oak Ridge sprints into sectionals after senior night sweep
The Oak Ridge High School track and field teams closed out their home schedule in style last week, hosting a meet to celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday, April 29.
The Lady Wildcats dominated the girls’ 100-meter dash, claiming the top three spots.
Caroline Sharp won with a time of 13.18 seconds, followed by Madeline Sharp (13.20) and Vanelle Wandji (13.33).
Caroline Sharp also took first in the 200-meter dash (28.07), with Ella Sharp placing second (28.49). Ella Sharp later won the 400 (1:05.49), while Jenayah Pippins finished third (1:08.69) and Ellen Edemiller placed fourth (1:09.88).
Oak Ridge swept the top six spots in the 800-meter run. Lily Tice won with a time of 2:27.85. She was followed by Amaijah Bishop (2:28.97), Emily Edwards (2:29.92), Wandji (2:33.63), Natalie Adams (2:34.40), and Elly Hartman (2:38.67).
Bishop also won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches. Zya Watson finished third (4-6) and placed fourth in the long jump (14-6.5), which was won by Chloe Gunter with a jump of 15-7.
On the boys’ side, Will Pressley placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.34).
The Wildcats went 1-2 in the 200, as Mason Greenhalgh won the event in 23.23 seconds and Tyree Porter was second (23.27). Greenhalgh also claimed victory in the 400 (50.68), followed by Porter (51.60) and James Phillips (53.04). Porter added a fourth-place finish in the long jump (18-10).
In the throwing events, Brian Gonzalez placed third in the discus (120-0). Harold Shanafeld was fourth (115-6). King Sandoval finished fourth in the shot put (39-4).
Oak Ridge’s throwers also competed at the Sobota Classic. Shanafeld took second in the discus (113-9), Jayden Early was fourth (111-5), and Hudson Lee finished fourth in the shot put (36-10).
Oak Ridge will return to action Saturday in Johnson City.
