The Anderson County High School baseball team capped a memorable 2025 season with a return to the Class 3A state tournament — its first since 2008.

This came after capturing the District 4-AAA regular-season and tournament titles, winning the Region 2-AAA championship, and taking two of three games in a sectional series against Unicoi County.

After rain postponed the tournament’s opening day at Blackman High School, Anderson County opened its state run Wednesday, May 21, with a 4-2 loss to Munford, despite outhitting the Cougars 7-6.

The Mavericks (31-13) struck first in the top of the first inning. Jeremiah Owens grounded into a double play that plated a run, and Easton Beaty followed with an RBI single to left, giving Anderson County a brief 2-0 lead.

Munford tied the game in the bottom half on Noah Lowry’s two-run homer, then took the lead in the fourth behind RBIs from Braden Hawkins and Drew Greenland.

Alex Bond took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings, striking out five and walking four. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Owens and Beaty each added two hits. The Mavericks drew seven walks but stranded 11 runners and grounded into two double plays.

Anderson County returned to the field Thursday and saw its season end with a 3-0 loss to Tullahoma, as the Wildcats used a third-inning rally and a strong pitching performance to shut down the Mavs.

Wil Ridenour started for the Mavericks and turned in a solid effort, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits over five innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Daniel Unthank pitched a scoreless sixth.

The Mavericks were held to just two hits — by Owens and Bond.

Anderson County turned a double play on defense but couldn’t crack the scoreboard in its final outing.
