A recent graduate, Ison signed his national letter of intent to play at Bryan College in Dayton.
While Bryan is relatively close to home, Ison said proximity wasn’t his initial priority during his college search.
“At first, I wanted to go far away,” he said. “But then I decided to stay a little closer to home because I think it’s important for my family to get a chance to see me play. But I wanted to go far enough away from home where I could be on my own.”
Ison plans to major in psychology.
What appealed most to him about Bryan was the sense of community and the coaching staff’s approach, he said.
“I really like their community there, and I really liked the coaching staff,” he said. “The coaching staff was really welcoming, and I wanted a relationship with my coaches.
“I don’t want my coach to just be my coach,” he said. “The coaches all just listened to me, and that was the most important thing in building relationships.”
