18U squad silences Freebirds with sweep

The Coal Creek 18U baseball team swept a recent doubleheader against the Graveston Freebirds at Morgan Wallen Field in Corryton.

Coal Creek, which made the trip to northeast Knox County on Monday, June 9, won the opener 11-1 and took the nightcap 8-1.

In Game 1, four pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter.

Aden Wilson, Clay Fletcher, Jeremiah Owens and Max Giles all made appearances on the mound and held the Freebirds in check, allowing just two base runners.

Meanwhile, Coal Creek pounded out 10 hits and capitalized on three Graveston errors.

Jackson Harris went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Reese Young finished 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI, a double and a stolen base. Fletcher added a single and two RBIs, while Giles doubled, drove in a run and scored once.

Blake Lowe also doubled and scored. Kris Pelliccio collected two hits, scored twice and notched an RBI.

In Game 2, Coal Creek pitchers limited Graveston to just three hits.

Pelliccio led the offense with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Landon Notaro went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and four stolen bases. Walker added a hit, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Tanner Hollifield went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Young finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and another stolen base.
