Children’s Museum to host events in July
Under the Blue Star Museums Program there will be free Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge admission through Labor Day for all active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserves.
Imagination Station Summer Camp will run through Friday, July 25, with morning afternoon or all day. More information and registration are on the website, childrensmuseumofoakridge.org.
The Summer Food Drive is underway, and will run through Friday, July 16, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Bring non-perishable food donations to the CMOR lobby.
The museum is also accepting donations of dog and cat food. Do not bring items packaged in glass. Brysonn’s Closet is the recipient of this year’s food drive.
Wonderful Wednesday will be July 16 and 23 at 11 a.m. Held in the museum’s gym, each week features a different theme from health to science to animals and more. It is free with admission.
Charlie’s Storytime will be Friday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m. Join for some read-aloud fun in the Preschool Room plus music, movement, or a simple STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activity.
The book is “Madeline” by Ludwig Bemelmans.
Third Sunday will be Sunday, July 20, from 1 until 4 p.m.
Visit the Museum’s Kids Go Green! Environmental Center and Gardens and the Knoxville Area Model Railroader’s clubhouse, and enjoy special activities with the Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club and the Knoxville Philatelic Society.
The Flattop House grand opening will be held Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Ribbon cutting will be at 11 a.m.
Free admission to the Flattop House will be offered to all visitors on July 26, thanks to Consolidated Nuclear Security.
Regular admission fees will apply that day for entry to the main museum.
Staff and volunteers will be on hand to direct visitors who wish to visit only the Flattop House on July 26.
Every week at CMOR includes Toddler Playtime in the Preschool Room from 10 a.m. until noon, Crafty Wednesday in the Music Room on Wednesdays from 1 until 4 p.m. and Musical Morning in the Music Room on Thursdays from 10 a.m. until noon.
