Mavs open golf season at Three Ridges
Anderson County High School’s boys golf team opened its 2025 season on the grand stage.
The Mavericks finished 12th out of 15 teams in the 5Star Preps Masters, a two-day, 36-hole event held last week at Three Ridges Golf Course in Northeast Knoxville. The tournament featured many of the top teams and players in East Tennessee.
It also marked the high school head-coaching debut for new ACHS’ Dallas Cole.
The Mavericks didn’t have their best showing on the course.
“I’m glad we got an invitation because it was a chance to see where we stacked up against the best teams,” said Cole, who previously coached at Norris Middle School. “We didn’t play our best, but I think by the time we start (nine-hole matches), we’ll be better. In a month and a half, in September, we’ll be right where we want to be.”
The par-72 layout proved to be a tough challenge for Anderson County.
Luke Baldwin led the Mavericks with a two-round total of 157. He fired a 76 in the first round, following it with an 81.
Hoyt Chadwell opened with an 80 and improved with a 78 on Wednesday, July 30. Maddox Tackett posted rounds of 81 and 79 for a 160 total.
Peyton Warwick carded an 84 in the first round and an 81 in the second. Gavin Drake rounded out the scoring with rounds of 87 and 85 for a 172 total.
