Hinton finds his swing, finishes Top 10
Hunter Hinton opened his senior season of high school golf on a high note last week.
Hinton, an Oak Ridge High School standout and the son of Wildcats Coach Scott Hinton, posted a Top 10 finish at the 5Star Preps Masters, a two-day, 36-hole event showcasing many of East Tennessee’s top teams and players.
The tournament was held July 29-30 at Three Ridges Golf Course in Northeast Knoxville.
Hunter Hinton carded even-par 72s on both days to finish seventh overall.
“I’m really proud of Hunter. He played well,” Coach Hinton said.
Kaleb Jackson shot a pair of 82s to finish 20-over-par.
“We didn’t do great, but we didn’t finish last,” the coach said. “This was an eye-opening experience for our kids. It’s part of growing and learning. Kaleb shot 82-82, and other than that, nobody else shot below 90.”
Oak Ridge will face Anderson County and Bearden in matches this week, and Hinton said he plans to give more players a chance to step up.
“We’re going back to the drawing board, and over the next two weeks, some of our younger guys will get a chance to take center stage,” he said. “We have a lot to figure out, and this is a great opportunity for the younger kids to prove they can earn a spot in our top five.
