If you want to support local artists along with local pets, the SARG Shoppe in Oak Ridge may be the place to visit.

The Shelter Animal Rescue Group (SARG) operates the new store to raise money for its programs, including foster care for cats and dogs and pet food distribution for people at the Anderson County Senior Center who may struggle to afford it.

The shop, located at 1948A Oak Ridge Turnpike, is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It officially opened Aug. 2.

While the shop may occasionally feature cats and dogs available for adoption or foster care, visitors must still go through the required application process.

“It’s a good place to show them off,” said cat coordinator Jan Baker.

SARG Treasurer Shirley Auble said the store helps cover the organization’s expenses but also offers something special for customers.
