Wilcox powers Norris past Panthers
The run of early-season success continued for Norris Middle School last week.
The Senators notched their second straight win as they outlasted Lenoir City, 27-14, Thursday night at Anderson County High School.
Cam Wilcox led the way with three rushing touchdowns against the Panthers. He scored on a 1-yard plunge, set up by a 50-yard scramble from quarterback Cooper Downs, and added scoring runs of 50 and 70 yards.
Fullback Hunter Wade opened running lanes with key blocks and also posted double-digit tackles for the second consecutive game for the Senators (2-0).
“Hunter is becoming a real weapon at fullback,” Norris coach Richie Noe said. “He’s paved the way for a lot of long runs just two games into the season.”
Noe credited his offensive line and the entire unit after last week’s win.
“When all 11 (players) are on the same page, we can be pretty good offensively,” he said.
The Senators will aim to extend their winning streak this week when they travel to West Knoxville to face Christian Academy of Knoxville at Warrior Stadium.
The Warriors (0-2) have dropped their first two games of the 2025 season, falling to Clinton and Jefferson.
Noe said he couldn’t be prouder of his team’s start.
“We travel to CAK this week and we look forward to the challenge,” he said. “We’ve had success so far this year and I am so proud of our coaches and players.
“What I really like is watching the boys develop leadership styles and roles as the year goes on. I get excited when I see how excited these guys get watching their teammates have success. Those are the types of cultures that set you up for a lot of wins beyond just middle school football.”
