September sessions planned for Clinton Farmers Market

After completing another successful event at the Anderson County Fairgrounds last Saturday, the Clinton Farmers Market has announced plans for two more sessions in September.

The market will return to the downtown parking lot on North Main Street at North Hicks Street from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, and then will go back to the fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, according to co-founder Maggie Hanson.

“We will hold the markets in September, then take a break and hopefully start an indoor market at the Clinton Community Center for the fall and winter,” she said. “We’re talking with the city to work it out.”

This past Saturday’s event brought both a large turnout of vendors and customers, Hanson said, with many of the vendors reportedly selling out their products at the market.

Vendors last Saturday included Hill View Farm’s “produce bus,” along with others selling locally raised pork, beef and lamb; fresh baked goods and sweets; embroidered shirts and other non-food goods; handcrafted art; locally made hot sauces and spices; tallow products, and more.

Also on hand were some food trucks.

Archie Liggett brought her jewelry booth to Saturday’s market, which was her first time setting up at the new Clinton Farmers Market.

“We had a lot of foot traffic, so we were very pleased,” Liggett said. She was on hand with her daughter, Liv Liggett, and Walter, Liv’s dog, who greeted visitors to the booth with a happily wagging tail.

Matthew Garafolo, a Clinton sheep farmer, and his partner, Hanson, created the market this year after the Clinton Farmers Market operators from the previous three years decided not to return this year.

The inaugural session was held on May 24, also at the fairgrounds.
