Clinton runners post strong early marks at Scots opener

Clinton High School’s cross country teams sat idle this past week while many area programs launched their 2025 seasons.

But the Dragons and Lady Dragons had already gotten an early start, competing Aug. 23 in Fountain City at Three Ridges Golf Course, and later at the Scots Opener at Maryville College.

The Lady Dragons had three athletes in the 5,000-meter race at Maryville.

Freshmen Lily West and Piper Bostrom led the way. West crossed in 24 minutes, 40 sec-onds to place 39th, just ahead of Bostrom, who finished 40th in 25:40. Senior Kenzlee Hutchison placed 61st, clocking 28:07.

“We had three girls over there; Kenzlee ran, but I was really impressed with our two freshmen, Lily and Piper,” Clinton Coach Tim Kumes said. “They finished right in front of each other. Everybody did really well, and both our boys and girls showed some good things.”

For the Dragons, Cooper Bostrom set the pace with a 26th-place finish in 19:10. Freshman Baylor Cool was 39th (20:02). Caleb Holt took 59th (21:06), Max Bostrom came in 101st (22:56), and Tyler Gomez finished 116th (24:50).
