Oak Ridge seeks spark in district tournament

The 2025 volleyball regular season is in the rearview mirror, and Oak Ridge High School has shifted its focus to the postseason.

The Lady Wildcats, seeded fourth in the District 3-AAA tournament, opened play Monday at Knoxville Central against No. 5 Anderson County. Results were unavailable at press time.

First-year Coach Meghan Ellis said she feels her squad is playing its best volleyball now.

“We’re excited about the district tournament, and I think we’re peaking at the right time,” Ellis said. “We have something to prove.”

Oak Ridge wrapped up the regular season last week by splitting a pair of district matches.

In Thursday’s finale, the Lady Wildcats dropped a four-set heartbreaker to Clinton (21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 30-28) at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.

The Lady Dragons finished as district runner-up and claimed the No. 2 tournament seed.

Earlier in the week, Oak Ridge defeated Gibbs behind a record-setting performance from Camryn McGinnis, who notched 27 kills — a new single-match mark for the Lady Wildcats.
