Anderson County earns home-field edge for district

The 2025 regular season has wrapped up for the Anderson County High School girls soccer team.

After a brief pause for fall break, the Lady Mavericks will begin play in the District 4-AA tournament as the league’s regular-season champion — giving them home-field advantage throughout.

Anderson County will open tournament play Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Monday’s Scott and Clinton game.

Lady Mavericks Coach Chris Curtin said he’s eager to chase the district tournament title.

“I feel pretty good about it,” he said. “I think we can win it. It’s after fall break, but it’s better than it being on fall break.”

In recent years, the district tournament has taken place during fall vacation.

Anderson County closed out the regular season Thursday with a victory over Karns.

“We won that one 3-1, but it could’ve been 6-0,” Curtin said.

Jocelyn Amos, Olivia Madron and Lily Trent scored for the Lady Mavericks, while Roxana Aguilar and Kaili Villalba each recorded assists.

The Lady Mavericks opened the week with a 5-0 loss to Powell on Sept. 30. The Lady Panthers went on to clinch the District 3-AAA regular-season championship with a 2-1 victory over Oak Ridge.

“Powell is a really good team,” Curtin said.
