Lady Dragons seek district three-peat
Clinton High School’s volleyball team entered the week aiming for its third-consecutive District 3-AAA tournament championship.
Tournament play opened Monday night, with the second-seeded Lady Dragons hosting No. 7 Knoxville Halls. Results were unavailable at press time.
Clinton swept the Lady Devils in the regular-season series, but Coach Lorri Johnson knows another title won’t come easily.
“We squeaked it out for the No. 2 seed,” she said.
“We play Halls, and they’re a scrappy team. They’ve had some injuries, but their young kids are really starting to come together.”
The Lady Dragons closed the regular season with a 25-12 overall record, and went 12-4 in district play.
In their regular-season finale, Clinton outlasted Oak Ridge in four sets (21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 30-28).
Parker McGhee led the way with 13 kills and eight blocks, while Claire Barrett added 10 kills and four blocks.
Senior Josie Moody posted a triple-double in her final regular-season match, recording 10 kills, 12 digs and 16 assists.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, Sept. 30, the Lady Dragons swept Halls 25-10, 25-15, 25-4. Moody tallied nine kills, seven assists, six digs and two aces, while Jailie Rodd contributed six kills.
