It took a little extra time, but the effort was worth it for the Anderson County High School girls soccer team.

The Lady Mavericks claimed the District 4-AA tournament championship with a 1-0 overtime victory over Gibbs on Thursday night at ACHS.

Olivia Madron delivered the decisive moment, scoring the match’s only goal in the 14th minute of the 20-minute overtime period to lift top-seeded Anderson County to the title.

“The overtime game was really interesting,” Lady Mavericks Coach Chris Curtin said.

“Gibbs is a good team, and (Lady Eagles Coach) Jason (French) always gets the most out of his team. He’s done a great job over there, and they’ve really improved since the first time we played them.”

The Lady Mavericks also edged Gibbs 1-0 in their regular-season meeting between the district rivals.

Anderson County (10-4-2) advanced to the championship match with a dominant 6-0 semifinal win over the Scott Lady Highlanders on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Roxana Aguilar scored twice and was one of five Lady Mavericks to find the back of the net. Kate Swisher, Millie Swisher, Delila Colby and Lily Trent also tallied for Anderson County, while Aguilar added an assist.

The Lady Mavericks hosted District 3-AA runner-up Carter on Tuesday in a Region 2-AA elimination semifinal. Results were not available at press time.

Carter reached the regional by falling 8-3 to Seymour in the District 3-AA championship match Thursday night.
