Lady Dragons rout Fulton 71-33, now 5-1 on the season

Clinton High School’s girls basketball team capped the holiday week by winning three games and capturing the championship at the Gibbs Thanksgiving Classic.

The Lady Dragons (5-1) enter the new week riding a three-game winning streak, after routing Knoxville Fulton 71-33 on Saturday to win the tournament at Jerry H. Sharp Gymnasium in Corryton.

Senior guard Addi Gamble powered Clinton past the Lady Falcons with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Gamble, who recently signed with Carson-Newman University, also tallied six steals and five assists.

She had plenty of help from her teammates. Josie Moody finished with 19 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block.

Caylin Taylor added 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Lanee Carmichael contributed eight points, five boards and three assists.

Clinton reached the championship game with a 58-39 win over Morristown East on Friday. Four Lady Dragons scored in double figures.

“It was a great team win against a good Morristown East team,” Clinton Coach Alicia Daugherty said. “Our players hustled, and the biggest thing for me is that we’re playing really well together right now and we’re playing as a team.”

Taylor led the way against the Lady Hurricanes with 15 points. Moody had 14 points, five rebounds, four steals and a block. Gamble scored 13 points and added eight rebounds, seven assists and four blocks. Carmichael scored 10 points and had four blocks and two assists.

The Lady Dragons opened tournament play with a 56-28 win over Campbell County.

Gamble recorded another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, along with a block, three steals and an assist.

Moody added 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks and three steals.

Clinton faced Kingston on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. The Lady Dragons are scheduled to host Karns on Friday.
