Lady Dragons roll
Gamble joins 1,000-point club
It was a milestone week for Clinton High School senior guard Addi Gamble.
Gamble, a Carson-Newman signee who already holds the Clinton program’s career steals record, scored her 1,000th career point during the Lady Dragons’ 64-30 District 4-AAA win over Gibbs on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
She filled the stat sheet with 23 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, three assists and three blocks in the blowout victory.
Gamble had plenty of support, as three other Lady Dragons also scored in double figures.
Josie Moody finished with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
Lanee Carmichael scored 11 points, pulled down three rebounds, had four steals and an assist. Cailyn Taylor added 10 points, seven steals, three rebounds and two assists.
Clinton kept the momentum rolling on Friday with a 76-40 rout of Union County at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.
Carmichael led the way with a double-double, scoring 24 points and collecting 12 rebounds. Taylor added 18 points, five steals, four boards and two assists. Gamble had 15 points, six rebounds, six steals, five assists and one block.
The Lady Dragons (on a four-game winning streak) have picked up three key district victories since a Jan. 9 home loss to crosstown rival Anderson County.
“We’ve played good defense — like the defense we played in Tampa before Christmas,” Coach Alicia Daugherty said. “In Tampa, we played a lot of basketball. Then we had Christmas Day off, came back and played at Carter. So, we had the excuse that we were tired.
“But I told them after the Anderson County game that the excuses are out the door, and we’ve played well since,” she said. “The only tough thing now is the weather, and we may have another bout of it next week.”
