Oak Ridge High School boys basketball Coach Aaron Green couldn’t hide his frustration after watching his team let another one slip away.

The Wildcats squandered a 10-point second-quarter lead and dropped their third-consecutive District 4-4A game, falling to Farragut 73-67 Friday night before a packed house at Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium.

“Everybody looks at a game and says the team made a lot of shots and they won,” Green said. “We don’t look at it that way. You have to make them miss.”

Oak Ridge (11-9 overall, 4-4 in the district), coming off losses to Hardin Valley Academy and Bearden, started fast.

The Wildcats closed the first quarter with a 20-14 advantage and extended that lead to 31-21 midway through the second after a 9-7 run.

But the Admirals (16-7, 6-2) closed the half on a 10-0 run, tying the game at 31-31 inside the final minute on a 3-pointer by Britton Lewis.

Farragut kept the momentum in the second half, taking a 54-50 edge into the final stanza. The Admirals went up 57-50 early in the fourth on a long-range shot by Aidan Foshie with 7:42 left.

Oak Ridge answered, tying the game three times. Justice West evened things at 59 with a bucket at the 5:05 mark. The Wildcats also tied it at 62-62 and 64-64 before the Admirals closed with a decisive 9-3 run.

Charlie Taubenheim led Oak Ridge with 22 points, but scored just six after halftime. Eli Peters and Ja’Rell Jemerson each had 15 points.

Parker Lane paced Farragut with 19 points.
