Altrusa offers $1,000 scholarships for women
Altrusa International of Oak Ridge will award scholarships starting at $1,000 to deserving women to help offset college or technical school expenses.
Two types of scholarships are available.
The Sarah Ketron Scholarship is named in honor of the late Sarah Ketron, a former Altrusa president who worked for many years as a school counselor in the Oak Ridge school system.
It’s designated for nontraditional female students who are continuing their education after interrupting their studies because of work or family obligations.
The Altrusa Scholarship is designed to assist women who are continuing their education beyond high school at a community college, university or technical school. Multiple scholarships will be awarded.
In addition, encouragement grants may be offered to applicants who are not selected as scholarship recipients.
All scholarships are based on financial need. Altrusa members and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply.
Applications are available by emailing altrusaorscholarship@gmail.com. Completed applications must be submitted online according to the instructions included in the application packet. Applicants are encouraged to read all instructions carefully.
All applications and required supporting documents must be received by 6 p.m. Feb. 17. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
