Layton enters County Commission race

Don A. Layton
Layton and his wife, Mary, have lived in the Oak Ridge community for more than 50 years, where they raised their children, Amy and Chris.
As a grandfather of three, Layton said he is deeply invested in the future of Anderson County families.
With a distinguished career spanning education, law, business and public service, Layton offers broad leadership experience to the residents of District 8, a news release said.
He began as an educator in Oak Ridge Public Schools and later taught at Roane State Community College.
He then practiced as an attorney and was a businessman before being appointed clerk and master by Chancellor William Lantrip in 1991.
During his seven years in that role, he was recognized as Tennessee’s most outstanding court clerk in 1997.
Layton went on to serve the people of Anderson County as general sessions judge for 24 years, earning statewide acclaim, including selection as president of the State General Sessions Court Conference in 2006.
“I am excited to bring my experiences in business, education, county government and law to the Anderson County Commission,” Layton said. “Quality education for our children and maintaining a safe, stable community for all remain top priorities.
“Responsible and transparent use of tax revenue is essential for sustainable growth and stability. As a grandfather of three, I am committed to ensuring our families receive the best services possible from our tax dollars — while keeping taxes low.”
Layton’s campaign slogan featured on his signs is “Experience and Common Sense.”
